MURDER IN PARLIAMENT
1937, Victoria, British Columbia. A brazen murder sends a young Scots-Canadian police officer on a hunt for the killer. Premier Duff Pattullo's re-election campaign is under full swing, and directly in the path of the killer. This novelette serves as a prequel to the novel Murder on Fort Street, available now, and the upcoming sequel Murder on the Mall.
Special Note:
The 1937 provincial re-election campaign of Duff Pattullo was to the best of my knowledge unmarred by any insidious plots or heinous murders, although that would have been very helpful for my story. Pattullo’s opinion on Jewish people is well known, and he was very much on the wrong side of history. He is on record saying that German-Jewish refugees were not “welcome” in British Columbia. He was also strongly opposed to allowing Asian people to serve in the military, based on his fear it would lead to citizenship and representation in government. This story in no way endorses his ideas or platforms. The bridge in Vancouver named in his honour is being torn down soon. Good riddance.
Murder on fort street
Victoria B.C. Canada in 1939.
As King George finishes the Canadian leg of his last pre-war journey to North America, Nazi Assassins plot to kill him, hoping to destabilize Great Britain and Canada. Victoria Police Detective Laise McCready enters investigating a daylight murder, and begins to unravel their operation.
Murder on Fort Street is an all-too possible fictional chapter of history surrounding real events.
Look for the sequel, coming soon.
Set in the early days of WWII, Detective McCready must face his past, and fight for the world’s future.
